Whetstone Waterdance

Oil on Canvas, 19” x 25”

The fields surrounding the Slate River on the outskirts of Crested Butte Colorado are teeming with an abundance of eye popping natural beauty. In the spring, the river overflows, creating endless channels and marshlands that quickly become home to a variety of wildlife. Along this stretch, I’ve come across deer, blue heron, a fox, elk, beaver and even moose, just to name a few! The light on this stunning autumn afternoon was so captivating! A warm golden glow seemed to wash over everything. If you look carefully, about halfway up on the left hand side of this painting, you can see the rooftops of the town of Crested Butte.
