Oil on Canvas Panel, 20” x 16”

The vast and rugged landscape seen here was the initial inspiration for this painting. When I first began to design the elements of its composition, there were no people. But sometimes you simply have to go where the painting leads you. After already investing a good many hours into the process, I started to feel the painting turn in a more narrative direction. As I was blocking in the rock formations in the foreground, a couple appeared on the rocks and the painting had suddenly found its voice!
