Skulls and Bones
Portrait of a Revelation I (Diptych: see Portrait of a Revelation II)- The human body is a complex union of flesh and experience. This drawing was the beginning of a journey whose destination was meant to reside somewhere beyond the confines of the physical world. The process was an attempt to address both body and mind.
The chalk-like nature of pastels opens the door to a wide range of techniques that can be used to manipulate the medium either prior to or during the application process. I treated the paper for each of my pastel drawings with a mixture of gesso and gray acrylic paint. During the application process I experimented with the pastel sticks. I used both the point and the side of the sticks to vary the thickness of my lines. Using my hands and a wet paintbrush I smeared the pastel once it had been applied to the paper.
