Notre Dame (France)- I deliberately prolonged my anticipation of seeing this cathedral by plotting my approach as a long, slow walk along the Seine River. As I drew nearer to my destination, I watched as the enormous flying buttresses of the back of the cathedral began to unfold like a giant spider. Eventually, the entire structure came into full view. By the time I crossed the river and stood before the intricate design of its facade, Notre Dame had left me breathless with wonder. Pen and ink drawing is a great medium for exploring a wide range of line qualities. Thick, bold lines can be juxtaposed against thin, delicate lines to create a dynamic drawing. Light colored lines can be layered beneath dark colored lines to produce the effect of depth. Lines can be straight, curved, jagged and wavy.
